Hola Hugo Thanks very much for your good teaching. I really enjoyed every minute. We had lots of fun and learned even more. But not only Spanish but tradition in Santa Cruz - Bolivia. Hugo, the teacher was really nice, friendly and welcoming. We have had many activities besides classes. Like market tours where not just vegetables were sold but also all sort of legal and illegal animals are merchandize, ceramic, toys, medicine herbs, coca leaves, and enchantment magic. These place where ancient Aymara and Inca practice fortune telling through coca leaves, old tradition and obviously native cults gathered, this section of the market is the main attraction, there we found articles to produce the so called magic such as: amulets, stones with mystical power, color candles, magic to attract money, love gender or healthiness. Muchas gracias por todo. Luz verdeeeeeeeeeeeeee. Adios. Cassandra Johnson
Evaluation from marleen:
´I had a little basic knowledge of the Spanish language when I entered this school and during the three weeks I attended classes I learned a lot. I enjoyed a lot the diferent methods that are used, like music, movies and computerprograms. The profesor enjoys teaching a lot, has a good sense of humor and is interested in many topics, so especially during the pauses I had the opportunity to talk about subjects I´m interested in and practice Spanish at the same moment. After three weeks I started my job as a volunteer at an orphanage, but I will certainly return to this place to learn more about this beautiful language. I can really recommand this school to study Spanish!´ marleen.bosch@hotmail.com

Thanks to everyone at Eureka group! The people were great. Thanks Anita and Hugo. They used alternative methods to teach us Spanish, popular songs, walking city market tours, pastry making, Bolivian movies, and dancing lessons. Which were very effective. My home stay family was also very friendly. I felt much more comfortable my conversational Spanish after some weeks I stayed in Santa Cruz Bolivia. Thank you ever so much. "La practica hace mejor" Simon Smith. UK Buried ST Edmond "I enjoyed the course as it was suited to my level of Spanish and Hugo was able to adapt his approach according to my progress. I felt that the course was very good at giving a solid foundation in the use of verbs, from which it will be easy to progress. I also feel that I benefited from living with the family as it allowed me to practice my Spanish a lot. The location was also very good which meant I didn´t have to worry about travelling to and from the school to my accommodation. In addition the food was very delicious, and the family was very friendly and patient with my Spanish". Simon Smith .England. Buried Saint Edmond. UK

A truly memorable experience! Tought in a relaxing setting, the teacher (Hugo) was fun energetic and extremely knowlegable, making everyday fun and challenging so that I wanted to study Spanish 24/7. The host family were lovely and very accomodating, and the cultural activities after class were a real eye-opener and added to the overall experience and value of this program. Highly recommended!
Evaluation from Giovanipiumatti:
Thanks Hugo and all of you! I am proud of having lived side by side with people that just few times ago I would have considered real strangers as I could consider people living on the other side of the world respect myself. The price was definitely the main reason that persuaded me to choose this school, as well as the fact the communication by internet was fast and competent. I can not recall all I have learned in few sentences. I could resume it saying that I learnt a new way of life in an other country very much different from my previous experiences. Definitively to try this school! I felt very welcomed by all the members of the family that hosted me. I have been treated like a member of the family and they followed the progress of my studies with interests for my improvements. I really enjoyed the enthusiasm of the teaching that communicate to me real passion and involvement in what they are trying to improve every day more. Giovanni Piumatte From Torino Italy
Evaluation from matthew:
Matt B. from Australia: Hugo was terrific and went out of his way too often to help us out. I am most glad to have attended your school and in particular to meet someone such as yourself, who to me instills the ideals of Leadership on values and Buddhist teaching in everyday life. You serve as an inspiration to me in my travels, and I thank you muchly for this. Learning IS fun, and I will be writing a separate addition to the website along the lines of the one at the bottom of the email, but I will make it more eloquent and longer. This should happen in the next week along with the photos. Again, muchos gracias, and maybe our paths will cross one day again. Matt Brebtener mattybrebs@gmail.com AUSTRALIA MAY 2010
Evaluation from markruiz:
I dont usually write these things but I feel compelled to give another five star review after having a great experience at the Aymara language school. I studied for a month and it was one of the highlights of my round the world trip. Hugo (el profesor) cares about his school and his students. He will look after you every step of the way. The family were great, food was good and I got to experience Santa Cruz in a way that most travellers dont. I also received a good insight into bolivian culture and traditions. I would recommend the school to anyone. Mark Ruiz, England.
Evaluation from poullang:
mark-ruiz@hotmail.com United Kindom 26 05 2010 I feel much more confident when shopping, eating out and checking into accomodation. I like the language and feel inspired to learn more. I feel I know have the tools to do so. Definitely pround of my achievement. This school is great!. First there was the five star reviews! Then after I received a rapid reply I felt as they wanted me to come, the others did not reply, this one was very welcoming! The price was also a consideration for me as I am on a tight budget. The most important thing, for me, was the language. I got the certificate and I also got a educational and helpfull insight into local culture, music, food, people, the castle amazing!etc, The hardest thing for me after the the verb transformations was the order of the words. I try to listen to other peoples conversations. I'm afraid nothing comes easy to me! MUCHAS GRACIAS! Hugo and Anita Sorry I took so long to do this! I am in Sucre now. Thanks for everything. Please pass on my regards to the Bolivian family Moron: Don Juan, Doña Elba, Patricia and Mauricio.
Evaluation from amosbudde:
July 4th -Amos Budde Minesota USA amos.budde@gmail.com I´m very happy to have spent two weeks in Bolivia at 1on1 spanish aymara before starting work in Tarija. I´ve gotten used to speaking here, the way people speak, the food, the accommodations, and I´ve seen many aspects of the city: rich and poor areas. I know that I still have to put in work to become fully comfortable speaking Spanish in a foreign country, but I´ve never felt more confident in my abilities after these two weeks. I´m proud that I explored the city as much as I did. It´s great to get out of the house to teach students and play soccer with them, take Micros by myself to all parts of the city. I´m proud that I met people I could spend time with and enjoy, and I´m proud that I read two books in Spanish during my two weeks here. I chose your service because it was the only school in Santa Cruz I could find that had a private tutoring program, the option for living in a home stay, and a web site that was understandable. I learned special uses and particular structures of sentences to get a more advanced understanding of the language. The most important thing I learned in the classroom was that I need a larger vocabulary, which I will try to obtain through more flashcards and reading more books. I already had a comfort speaking the language, so speaking in the classroom came naturally. The hardest skills and ideas to get are when we start changing the meaning of tenses. For example: using past tenses to describe the near future, or the future to describe something that recently happened. That makes no sense to me and is difficult to internalize. Immersion in the language is the key to becoming comfortable speaking it. That means music, tv, speaking, reading. It´s all important. I think it was appropriate for my level of Spanish. Some grammar lessons were really helpful, others seemed like they were too specific to be useful for me. I enjoyed and got a lot out of the times when we just spoke at length on a particular topic. The classroom is great. I love being outdoors, and it´s wonderful to have tea and coffee and bread right there available. The group Eureka are very good. The opportunity to work with the school will be unforgettable. Going to the Ayoreos (natives from the amazons) was good. Even though it didn´t make me practice my Spanish, I was glad to have seen what life was like for them. The services he provides are immensely helpful. I am so grateful that the teacher, Hugo, helped me get settled in Bolivia and even accompany me in the things I needed to do. It goes above and beyond anything I could have expected. I liked the field trips we went on. The classroom is great, and I have no criticisms of the teaching quality. MUCHAS GRACIAS!
Evaluation from stuartlovejoy:
STUART LOVEJOY FROM AUSTRALIA stulovejoy@hotmail.com I feel positive because everyone has been very kind and helpful while I have been here. At times I did feel like the things that were done for me (washing clothes, etc) were charged, while the things I did to contribute (pay and cook dinners occasionally, etc), I was happy to do this things, but sometimes people can feel a bit taken advantage of when they re not reciprocated. But that small thing aside, I am happy I studied and stayed here. Learning Spanish, being able to talk with people more now than I could when I started. I learnes much more Spanish, much about the Bolivian festivals and culture. My advice to other is be patient, be assertive and enjoy yourself. At times I did feel like things were a bit haphazard, and that I had to repeat some suggestions. My overall Evaluation: Good MUCHAS GRACIAS!
Evaluation from amoamos:
"Amos Budde" amos.budde@gmail.com USA BOSTON "With Hugo Vargas, learning the Spanish Language extends far beyond the classroom. If you register for his classes at his school in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, he ensures that you will have plenty of opportunities to learn and practice Spanish while out in the city, and this is in addition to the classroom hours that he provides. As a student of his, Hugo set me with an opportunity to teach math classes as the local middle school. He took me to the courthouse to see real cases, among many other adventures around Santa Cruz that we had. He even accompanied me to the city center and helped me buy a cellphone when I told him I needed it. He is warm and generous, and if you study with him, your Bolivian experience will surely be rich."
Evaluation from Ninaeilermann:
Nina Eilermann from Germany. Nov 2010 When I arrived in Santa Cruz for my first day I felt immediately at ease, Hugo come to pick me up at the airport, Anita, my host family were very kind to me and by the end of the weeks, they were like a family. I learnt a lot during my stay, not only about the language, but also about the culture. Time past very quickly I really enjoy studying at 1on1spanishaymara. I've improved so much since I started here. The people are brilliant and the field trips to Samaipata, las Cuevas and Cotoca that the school organizes are really fun. I'm extremely impressed with the effort Anita and Hugo did and am so pleased I decided to come here. All improvements in terms of the language and the experiences were fine. I've visited loads of amazing different markets tons of food! which normally I'd never have seen, and more importantly have learnt so much Spanish. The course is great and I now have so many opportunities to use the Spanish I've learnt. Also I've learnt so much about Santa Cruz Bolivia the food, the people and customs many other things. I really love my course and find the teaching very high and humorous. It was perfect place to learn. The prices for the field trips are really very good, n.eilermann@gmx.de

NOV 2010 We are two students from Sweden, Here It feels good because now I m going to enjoy the the weekend and try to use more of the Spanish I learned I encounter new people. The Bolivian magazine called siete dias the teacher introduced was very interesting for us to learn. The place was not very far, but at the swame time we got to see more of the city and it was cheap to get here by local transport called MICRO. We had our place to stay. We only took Spanish classes which was really interesting. They focused on the right part for our benefit and interest. There is a really lovely ecological atmosphere in the school many fruit trees of lots of kinds. The teacher was welcoming and friendly. Been an enjoyable learning experience. It has been really useful to study Spanish again and enlarge our experience here. The class was dynamic and good and we have made friends. It Has been suuper intensive our class 5 hours but also interesting. we felt we have progressed a lot. We have learned a lot, but there is a lot more to learn. We have achieved our goals for the these supur intensive classess. The class coverd every thing that we asked for, and more... We saw the student accomodation. The rooms were fine with windows looking at the many fruit trees. Single and clean. The teacher, Hugo, was very goodk, he was always concerned about us. He told us Bolivian jokes, at the last day of class we went to see a Castle. Imagine a castle!!!!! pejic.boris@gmail.com

In your short time I learned here Basic language and Bolivian culture. It was definitely worth doing it. There was a degree of difficulty because this was our first ever Spanish lessons but I think that the way it was taught made it easier. The course content for us was a perfect introduction to Spanish. It has taught us the basics we need and has given us tools to build on what we have learnt. This schools has great principe. Helped us reach our goals set at the beginning of the week. A really effective and fun way to learn Spanish. The quality of the teaching was excellent. Hugo is a great person. Evaluation from raymond:
“A very caring and respondent teacher.” “The mangoes here were delicious!!” Raymond and Ann lee USA – SAN DIEGO Ca. Feb --2011 beelann@yahoo.com I undergo that I have a much better grasp of the language. We had a nice base of vocabulary to start from but needed an overview of all the verb conjugations. We managed to get a great overview to springboard us forward. I feel that I am on my way to much easier and much better Spanish conversation. We had already spent one month in Bolivia before arriving here, but learned much more about the life, politics, and growth of the country in here. I would recommend the teaching here. It was at a very high quality by a very caring and respondent teacher. The class was challenging, but exactly what we needed. With only a couple weeks to crash through this information, it was presented and practiced with considerable ease. There was coherent progression and it appeared as if we could change it as required. <>There was good flexibility. The content was great. As we were external students we stayed outside, I have not had contact with the rest of the organization, outside of Hugo. The quality of teaching and learning moved at a great pace. Very well done!. The overall experience was excellent. Program Quality:….. Excellent Friendly atmosphere :…. Excellent Fun Factor:….. Excellent Gracias Hugo Annlee At the end of the course I have a much better understanding of sentence structure. It is also helping me to understand what I am reading in books. I can now use and understand compound sentences to express what I have done in the past and what I will do. In your short time what I have learned how the country is progressing and people are becoming more independent. Also from watching the Bolivian movies here I not only learned about Bolivia’s´ indigenous people but also about the culture. My advice to somebody who would like to come here is asking a lot of questions and don´t is afraid to make mistakes because you can only learn from them. I had some degree of difficulty in class of course, some things were more difficult but it was explained and reviewed where I understand it now. The class was definitely clear. The course content was very good Hugo was well prepared before each class and allowed us to ask many questions which were very good. Overall my rating for this school is excellent, excellent in program, friendly atmosphere, money and fun factor. Specially Bartolina!!!!

yannick_burink@hotmail.com I am Yannick From HOLLAND I am looking forward to use everything in practice! I could have learned more, all the tenses are still a bit new. In the coming weeks I need more time to organize everything in my head. I learnt a lot about the culture what Hugo showed me on the markets and texts we read about certain typical food. They inform good what kind of learning method is used in the classes. It was good to have aims at the beginning of the week. But then I learned the different tenses that were different. I certainly learned a lot, the teacher puts a lot of afford in showing the student Santa Cruz city, I liked it. I enjoyed doing bakery with some nice Bolivian people and typical pastry that was really fun!! Accommodations was better than before The program Quality ok with some impatience because I forgot something sometimes. Friendly atmosphere, they tried to do their best I felt fine . In fun factor we visited a lot, I learned a lot. For that part the Money was worth it as well as learning Gracias..

David Granucci – USA - los Angeles - California david.granucci@cnb.com I appreciated the flexibility that Hugo offered. The culture of Santa Cruz AND the “language of the street” I thinks Aymara schools is a broad, rich, experience. “Language and more” The instructor was available outside of class. My Expectations were clearly outlined in the beginning, this course has stimulated my interest in this length of time *I believe the school could benefit by being closer to center. However, Hugo makes up for the distance of the school (from Centro), because he accompanies the student on public-transportation. I like about this program the mixture of ¨language, street, and culture¨ I enjoyed very much. By coincidence, I had an injured left hand, so making the pastries was painful. PERO, I still enjoyed it!! I loved the visit to Samaipata, and also the visit to El Mansion (Renovation Church meeting gathering) At times, I felt a little guilty that I did not have the energy to partake in all of the activities that Hugo planned (I arrived very tired from Los Angeles). I am grateful that he had empathy (empatia) para mi faulta de energia But in total, Hugo and I completed many activities. And I enjoyed them all!!
Evaluation from joachimvogel:

Stephanie Gregory – Australia Melbourne Feb 2015 stephanie.gregory@live.com I have above basic Spanish skills, at least intermediate and more of an understanding of the language all together. My expectations were fulfilled here. I can understand, conjugate in all tenses and better understand reflexives a lot better now. Just a little more study and memorising and I will be a lot more confident. I learned a lot of past tense conjugations. The program is great! Caters to all types of learning – practical, written, visual and excursions and trying local delicacies. Hugo, my teacher knew history, conjugations, rules and comparisons to English. He was wonderful – always willing to help, kind, welcoming and eager to learn himself which made him a lot easier to approach We went on daily endeavours always fun and interesting. The instructor stimulated my interest in the course. The expectations were clearly outlined in the beginning. Like reading, exercises assignments were of reasonable length and for my level. I would advise to anyone interested in learning Spanish, certainly I would definitely take another course with this instructor or facilitator. I rate overall satisfaction with this course. Adam and Harrieta United Kindom (Scotland) harrietalaw@gmail.com Thank you Hugo for everything you have done for us both since we arrived in Santa cruz. We have rally enjoyed our time spend here and would love to visit again in the future! The Spanish course fit my interest I heard the teacher was good, the place is a relaxed and informal environment. It is An easy going and accessible course, which I would recommend to first-time Spanish learners. Hugo has a secret garden in the hustle and bustle of Santa Cruz. In honesty Santa Cruz wasn't somewhere we had originally planned on going but the combination of an affordable place to stay and Spanish lessons was perfect for us. His place is well kept and clean. The Spanish classes were informal and really helpful. There is an additional charge for the classes, (just in case I make it sound they are included) but the cost was very affordable. We'd really recommend this to anyone new to Spanish and certainly anybody new to Bolivia. Hugo is a very friendly man and very helpful getting you orientated in what is a sprawling and at times hectic city. O and he has two dogs and a cat. They are all lovely. Gracias Gracias

Bela Jahnkow Alemania 2018 I learned Spanish language and Bolivian culture. I think I got the basics now and I can go out and learn more! I think for the basics it’s good to learn them in 1on1spanishaymara. But now I practice outside and learn more. I don’t think I need another Spanish course. My Spanish will improve by itself from now on. But all in all it was very nice to learn Spanish here with you Hugo! the teacher. Thank you very much! Now I can properly travel through South America! I expected a good room and a nice teacher. I expected a group course. Almost everything was okey. Adios, hasta la vista." Todo bien, a toda maquina"

If i had to choose again, I would choose them.” After two weeks I can say that here with Hugo, the teacher and his pets is the best choice that I could make. The atmosphere is really ecological and peaceful. Good Spanish and good course of study. We really Enjoy Bolivia. MUCHAS GRACIAS

Carla Knappik from Germany.2019 There is a very good recommendation on 123teachme. Learning and living in Bolivia was very good! Here they taught me a lot about the history of Bolivia. The instructor was definitely fine. It was outlined that a lot of effort should be brought towards the classes. I would recommend anybody that would like to learn Spanish in Santa Cruz. The rooms and facilities were completely fine and I very much enjoyed the garden the mangoes fruits. The room was clean and comfortable. Oh! Yes, I loved the pets. I needed more time for repletion maybe. Other than that, thank you very much for the kindness, for your effort of showing me many different areas of Santa Cruz, for providing such a nice breakfast every day, making sure that I was always alright, thanks especially for your teaching efforts. Oh! Yes. The SALSA DANCE VERY GOOD. WOW I learned MUCHO MUCHO: a lot a lot.

Ladina & Marvin Prodigious duo traveling on a van. Swiss 2019 For us was a really interesting program with a good mind set. Hugo was a very good teacher. First he is looking for your needs and interests and will base the lessons on that. This makes the classes very individual and interesting. Since we decided together where we wanted to get in our time being here, lesson were clearly outlined from the beginning. We advise to anyone who would like to learn in an authentically place in Bolivia. The atmosphere is nice and on hot days you can even have classes outside. We probably come back. We liked the beautiful and calm surroundings. Good and funny lesson.

Hugo was a fantastic teacher! I had a great time working and studying in 1on1spnishaimara and experiencing the Bolivian life and culture! His dogs are mad and great company; all in all I found it a great place to be. If you are in need of learning Spanish, I couldn’t recommend Hugo as a teacher enough! Just fantastic! The lessons are flexible and can be tailored to relevant Spanish that would be useful whilst I am travelling. The condition for Covid 19 are suitable no problem. Anais Randal UK- 2021 Thanks for a great time
Evaluation from sirahoogstraten:
Sira Hoogstraten from Holland 2022 March I had two days of class with Hugo (the teacher) from 1on1spanishaimara and I had an amazing time! Hugo is a very nice teacher that not only teaches you about the grammer and vocabolary, but also tells you about Bolivia and its history, Above that he offers activities outside the classroom to put your learning into practice. He took me on a horse wagon, we loaded firewood for the Ayoreos, I volunteered gladly to do this, we headed throught the village right up the comunity where the AYOREO ,natives from the amazona, endangered ethnic Bolivian people live, to show and tell me about their culture. This was very interesting and I would never have done this without a guide like Hugo. Afterwards we have lovely arepa and sonso, typical home tortilla. I would very much recomend this school for learning so much than just the Spanish language.
Evaluation from JoeBowden4680:
I really enjoyed my week learning Spanish with Hugo in Santa Cruz, he understands well the combination of muscle memory and out of the box learning required, that allowed me to make what I thought was good progress on my Spanish skills. Hugo is friendly and will assist you in any way. The accomodation is basic but pleasant enough, with a communal fridge and kitchen, and a delightful garden with many places to relax in the shade. I would recommend this school to anyone trying to learn Spanish while in Santa Cruz.
Evaluation from Felix Morley:
Felix Morley From okey Dic 2022 I was staying in Santa Cruz and wanted to learn Spanish from a beginner level. So I googled Spanish classes and this one seemed suitable. I have found it to be very useful and feel I have maximized my ability to learn Spanish. So I am pleased with how the course has gone. The instructor in charge demonstrated knowledge and experience, strongly I agree and also stimulated my interest with some city tour etc. . I would recommend this course to every English speaker staying in Santa Cruz or abroad wanting to learn Spanish. I want to continue my Spanish study, however I am leaving Santa Cruz and may not return. However, I may at some point in the future continue to study via Zoom classes. Program quality very good, facilities ok, value of the money, fine, and fun factor tour interesting and singular. Overall I had an excellent experience and it has motivated me to continue my study of Spanish. Hugo is a first class teacher, who is patient and dedicated and made me feel very welcome at his home.

Jakob Aaquist Johansen Gold in Santa Cruz Spousing with my wife for a week in Santa Cruz became the most inspiring time! I spent 6 days at the Ayamara Spanish School and each was special and interesting. The teachings of Hugo, the school principal, was so much more than him just teaching spanish. Hugo teaches a way of life, insights from life lived in Europe and in the states. Intercultural observations that serves to take a new look at your self and all living things on the earth. The teachings came in the form of humorous stories, in spanish, all filled with respect and love for life and all its many beings and forms. I can’t recommend this gem of a place enough. When I come back to Santa Cruz I will make sure to visit Hugo, his lovely dogs and the well assorted vegetarian restaurant at “Plan 3000” once again!!
Evaluation from filoujojo:
Hugo knows best how to teach spanish! As an learntherapist, I just can say, he makes perfect lessons personally for you. I am impressed and really happy to find this school. We stayed for 3 weeks with daily one spanish- lesson and hanging around in the hammocks under the mango trees and feel free now to talk to people!
Evaluation from Camdenderry :
Camden Derrry - Australia Jan 2024 This Spanish class fit my interest a fulfilling program that taught me a very authentic side of Bolivia. I loved seeing people live their day to day lives whilst also integrating that with Spanish lessons. The instructor Hugo is knowledgeable; I strongly agree with that. I was having difficulty with the use of ´SER´and ´ESTAR´ and in which scenario to use each. The instructor spent a class allowing me to gain a clear understanding. Also has a very strong understanding of the local area, showing me wonderful places to eat and interesting parts of the community. I would take another lesson If my travel plans aligned, yes. I really appreciated being shown the special part of this community the indigenous Ayoreos. They have lovely pets.
Evaluation from monikaengle:
A few months ago, I casually stumbled across 1on1spanishaimara and I assisted while visiting Santa Cruz Bolivia. I am surprised at how much I have learnt in just 2 weeks hours. Hugo´s teaching way is very motivated, creative, fun and simple far way different to any academic class I have ever experienced. Most of you will know I have the attention span and get bored very easily, but I love that there’s loads of cultural information about Bolivia, Santa Cruz, tradition, visiting market tours, vegatables market place to eat. Talk about Bolivia Hugo is fascinated about that. It was money well spent!. If anybody is considering learning Spanish, I highly recommend this place. I love the pets as well.
