Spanish 101 Nouns and Number

Overview

Nouns can be singular or plural.

Adjectives usually agree in number with the nouns they describe. Generally, when the noun finishes with a vowel we add an s; when the noun finishes with a consonant we add es.

Singular vs. Plural

El hombre es muy alto.
     The man is very tall.
Nosotros somos altos.
     We are tall.

El árbol es verde.
     The tree is green.
Los árboles son verdes.
     The trees are green.

El gato es bonito.
     The cat is cute.
Tus gatos son bonitos.
     Your cats are cute.

Note: Colors are adjectives!
